Op 23 februari 2025 gingen 21 leerlingen van PCC Het Lyceum, samen met drie begeleiders, op reis naar Darmstadt voor een uitwisseling met Duitse scholieren. Deze reis maakte deel uit van een internationaliseringsproject met het thema ‘My place, our space‘, dat wordt gefinancierd door het Erasmus-subsidiefonds van de Europese Unie.

De leerlingen hebben zich met een motivatiebrief aangemeld voor dit project. Zij gaan logeren bij leerlingen van het Georg-Büchner-Schule in Darmstadt, Duitsland. Darmstadt is één van de zustersteden van Alkmaar. Het AUC ondersteunt al jarenlang de samenwerking tussen de scholen.

Tijdens de uitwisseling is er hard gewerkt aan het project.

My place our space

In dit project onderzoeken de leerlingen hoe de gemeentes Darmstadt en Alkmaar aan jongeren ruimte geven om samen tijd door te brengen. Ze kijken naar openbare plekken zoals parken, recreatiegebieden en jongerencentra zonder winstoogmerk.

De leerlingen hebben daarom de openbare plekken waar zij graag zijn geselecteerd en beoordeeld. Ze stelden zichzelf vragen als:

• Toegankelijkheid
  Is de plek makkelijk te bereiken? Kun je er met het openbaar vervoer komen, en is het ook toegankelijk voor rolstoelen?

• Veiligheid
  Voel je je op je gemak op deze plek? Denk je dat anderen dat ook zo voelen? Wat maakt dat je je veilig voelt of juist niet veilig voelt?

• Inclusiviteit
  Voor wie is deze plek bedoeld? Denk je dat iedereen zich hier welkom voelt? Kun je hier jezelf zijn?

• Verbeterpunten
  Wat zou de plek nog fijner maken voor jongeren?

De Duitse deelnemers hebben voor deze uitwisseling de plekken in Darmstadt uitgekozen die zij zelf fijn vinden. Samen met de leerlingen uit Alkmaar hebben ze deze plekken bezocht en bekeken. Alle bevindingen zijn verwerkt in een app, zodat iedereen die Darmstadt bezoekt makkelijk zijn weg kan vinden. In de app staan locatiegegevens en er kan gefilterd worden op categorieën.

De leerlingen hebben hun resultaten en de app gepresenteerd aan drie vertegenwoordigers van de gemeente Darmstadt (Jongerenzaken, Toerisme en Marketing en Internationale Betrekkingen).

Op donderdag de 27^e kwam er een einde aan deze uitwisseling. Op de terugweg naar Alkmaar heeft de groep in Frankfurt nog een tussenstop gemaakt voor een stadswandeling.

Volgende uitwisseling

De volgende uitwisseling is in juni, in Alkmaar. Onze leerlingen gaan samen met hun Duitse vrienden hun favoriete openbare plekken in en rondom Alkmaar onderzoeken. De app wordt dan aangevuld met de informatie die zij verzamelen, zodat iedereen die Alkmaar bezoekt er ook gebruik van kan maken!

On Feb. 23, 2025, 21 students from PCC Het Lyceum, along with three teachers, went on a trip to Darmstadt for an exchange with German schoolchildren. This trip was part of an internationalization project with the theme “My place, our space,” funded by the European Union’s Erasmus grant fund.

The students applied for this project with a cover letter. They will stay with students at the Georg-Büchner-Schule in Darmstadt, Germany. Darmstadt is one of Alkmaar’s twin cities. The AUC has supported cooperation between the schools for many years.

The entire week was spent working hard on the project:

My place our space

In this project, students investigate how the municipalities of Darmstadt and Alkmaar give young people space to spend time together. They look at public places such as parks, recreational areas and non-profit youth centers.

The students therefore selected and assessed the public places they liked. They asked themselves questions such as:

• Accessibility
  Is the place easy to reach? Can you get there by public transportation, and is it wheelchair accessible?
• Safety
  Do you feel comfortable in this place? Do you think others feel the same way? What makes you feel safe or unsafe?
• Inclusiveness
  Who is this place meant for? Do you think everyone feels welcome here? Can you be yourself here?
• Points of improvement
  What would make the place even nicer for young people?

For this exchange, the German participants chose the places in Darmstadt that they liked. Together with the students from Alkmaar they visited and looked at these places. All findings have been incorporated into an app so that anyone visiting Darmstadt can easily find their way around. The app contains location information and can be filtered by categories.

The students presented their results and the app to three representatives of Darmstadt City Council (Youth Affairs, Tourism and Marketing and International Relations).

On Thursday the 27th, this exchange came to an end. On the way back to Alkmaar, the group made another stop in Frankfurt for a city tour.

Next exchange

The next exchange will be in June, in Alkmaar. Together with their German friends, our students will explore their favorite public places in and around Alkmaar. The app will then be completed with the information they collect, so that everyone who visits Alkmaar can use it too!
